Project Update

Hi Everyone! We're back with a Christmas Eve update, and a fairly large one at that!

First we'll start with what the team has been up to.

Last Week:

  • Art: Made window assets, performed base texture pass on cabin textures
  • Design: Cabin layouts were iterated on with the Art and Design team, gameplay documents were cleaned up/made consistent to get rid of old designs that were still present in some
  • Animation: Created placeholder animations for Engineers to use in testing combat, and environment kill systems
  • Engineering: Implemented first pass of interaction minigame, started first pass of vehicle escape system and began implementing combat

This Week (Short Holiday Week):

  • Art: finishing window mesh, starting concrete texture and iterating on blockouts of assets
  • Design: Continued cleanup of docs, Completing first pass on cabin layouts
  • Animation: Continued support of the Engineering team through temporary animations
  • Engineering: Base combat implementation
  • Beverage: Egg Nog w/ Bourbon

We're all going to take a nice Holiday Break after tonight, but we'll be back at it soon enough.

Surveys Have Been Sent (Check Your Email)

It happened!! The Surveys have all been sent out. For real.

Some surveys have a lot of questions...
Some surveys have a lot of questions...

Definitely get to letting us know your names, addresses and which platforms you want your games and DLC for. Some surveys are longer than others depending on what rewards are in them (I'm looking at you Camp Crystal Lake Counselor Database). Go through them when you can, and if you have to wait till the New Year, no worries.

You can also score some more add-ons when you go through the checkout process or pledge additional funds to the project. All of the money raised (minus what it takes to fulfill the rewards) will continue to go towards Stretch Goal unlocks. If you want to wait and add-on items after the holidays, feel free. Your card will not be charged until the Backer Surveys are closed out.

Some of you backed multiple times with different email accounts. Please check all of your emails and go through with each one to ensure we can get you all of the rewards you pledged for.

If you decide later that you want to edit your survey response, you definitely can. You can go back to your survey and change it any time before we lock down the surveys for processing. It'll be a couple months until we're ready to lock in your choices. You'll be able to update your Addresses past that date though, up until it's time for us to prepare to start shipping things. BackerKit makes this whole process easier and less stressful for everyone.

If you need to review your information or pledge status, you will be able to recover your survey here: friday-the-13th-the-game.backerkit.com

If you use your Facebook login for your Kickstarter account, the BackerKit survey will be sent to the email you used for your Facebook account. If you have another email address that you would prefer to use, please contact support at friday-the-13th-the-game.backerkit.com/faq and we'll get you sorted out!

Slasher Backer Campaign is LIVE!

First off, just to be clear... The Slasher Backer campaign is mostly separate from the Backer Surveys and Add-Ons. Slasher Backer is meant for those that missed out on the Kickstarter but now want to get in.

Most crowd-funded projects call this the "Slacker Backer" phase, but we prefer to honor Jason and not cast disparities on anyone that didn't happen to hear about what we were doing.

It's HERE!!!
It's HERE!!!

Head on over to check it out and spread the word so that everyone that didn't hear about the Kickstarter in time can get involved. Together we can grow the player-base for the game and also hit some other stretch goals!

The Slasher Backer Campaign will run for a few months and then we'll close it off and see where we stand.

Camp Crystal Lake Cabin Retreat and Interactive Dev Diary Add-On [Details]

This is one of our Stretch Goals that morphed into something else entirely. It's a new add-on that's live on the Backer Surveys and in the Slasher Backer Store.

The Camp Crystal Lake Cabin Retreat stretch goal has merged with our desire to be as transparent with our backers in our development progress and processes as possible. We're taking a virtual space, building it out, so that you can see new content pop-up in this interactive Dev Diary as it gets built. We like to find ways to keep this open communication going and make it fun too!

Every themed room in the cabin has new things to see, and as assets are produced they'll show up inside of them. Wander the cabin in first-person and see 3D models of the Weapons, Counselors and Environment Objects. One room in particular, Jason's Chambers is A MUST SEE for Friday the 13th fans! Experience the Jason models we build for the game in 3D and to scale. Walk around each Jason, seeing every small, painstaking detail that is put into bringing the notorious slasher to life.

Enjoy the cabin's radio that pumps out the music tracks from Harry Manfredini, with new music added as he finishes each track. Sit down and watch some horror classics on the TV. Fans will get to see new game assets as they are created first, and also watch videos and listen to audio from the team, interviews with horror icons like Sean Cunningham, Tom Savini, Kane Hodder and more.

Spooky! But full of cool stuff...

This cabin also serves as a Friday the 13th Museum. There will be exhibits that highlight characters and interesting behind the scenes information both from the game and films. This is the ultimate experience for Friday the 13th fans. All in first-person, to deeply immerse you into Friday the 13th canon and lore. You don't want to miss this!

Gameplay Overview Video #2: Stamina and Noise

Here is the second in a series of videos that will help explain gameplay for Friday the 13th: The Game to show how Stamina works, as well as noise generation. As usual, Adam Sessler narrates and elucidates like only he can.

You might notice a hint of an ability that Jason has that correlates to what was seen in the Pre-Alpha Gameplay video that was released last month too.

Twitch Stream Updates

OH... MY... WOW!!! D2 is so crazy!!
OH... MY... WOW!!! D2 is so crazy!!

Our last Twitch Stream last night was BONKERS! D2 Jumped the shark and flew on past the moon! If you didn't get to watch it... Here is the replay! Short for time? Watch this clip that IH8YH put together...

We're committed to keeping everyone up to date on development, and we're going to have FUN doing it while I get rekt on these retro gaming streams!

We have a nice mix of games coming up the next 5 weeks and we are always listening to suggestions for titles to play. Feel free to post them up in the forums...

  • Wednesday Dec. 30th at 8pm EST/5pm PST - Hitting up some foreign retro action with a Japanese game in the Splatterhouse universe called Wanpaku Graffiti on Famicom
  • Friday January 8th at 8pm EST/5pm PST - For the first stream of 2016 we'll fire up a The Thing on XBox (because Chris at Mighty Rabbit says the PS2 version is inferior) in honor of John Carpenter being awesome incarnate
  • Friday January 15th at 8pm EST/5pm PST - We're going back to the land of nuttiness and crazy tentacle vegetation monsters with D2 for the Dreamcast
  • Friday January 22nd at 8pm EST/5pm PST - I'm taking a suggestion from the forums and running with IH8YH's suggestion of Super Ghouls N' Ghosts on the SNES
  • Friday January 29th at 8pm EST/5pm PST - Nintondo_Man (Adrian from Mighty Rabbit) recommends I take a stab at a game... So why not. I'll be playing Extermination on PS2

We're thankful for your involvement and we wish you all a wonderful holiday season!

Stay warm, stay safe... and drink some Hot Chocolate!

Update #17: BIG UPDATE! Surveys going out this week, New Counselor Concept Art, Gameplay Overview Video, Upcoming Twitch Streams!
almost 9 years ago – Mon, Dec 14, 2015 at 11:35:07 PM

Project Update

Things are moving right along. Surveys will be going out this week as they just need a few fixes and some additional testing. We have been working on crafting the Slasher Backer Campaign too and will soon be providing details for everyone on that.

Even with the holidays looming, the team has been cranking out some great stuff to share with you. On the production side of things for the game itself, Illfonic is plowing through art and engineering tasks, Tom is hard at work designing kills in addition to the new look for the exclusive Jason, Harry is busy composing the madness that is the soundscape inside of Jason's head, and Kane is gearing up to don the mask again. We have our schedule laid out and Gun is planning for our big Mocap shoot which should take place early February.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding!

The F13 Forums Need YOU!

Some of you are in the know and have already joined the F13 crew on the forums. If you have not signed up for them, then rectify this ASAP by heading over to this URL right here to join the fun! - http://forum.f13game.com

Look at all that stuff you're missing out on!
Look at all that stuff you're missing out on!

There are tons of discussion threads going, plus pictures and info being posted everyday. Soon we'll start doing polls and Dev Q&A threads too. Pop in, introduce yourself and start getting involved! I promise you don't want to miss out on what's coming.

What's Next: Surveys This Week!

LAST WEEK: Illfonic designers finished working on that last of the gameplay documents and worked on a few non-gameplay systems. The animation team began on blocking out environment kills and cleaned up commenced on existing animation rigs. Engineering worked on killer grabbing, bloodlust, stalking, object interactions and improved the architecture for our camera system. All that means the game is progressing, becoming increasingly more fun, and we're prepping for big leaps on the animation front in the coming months.

THIS WEEK: Surveys will finally be going out and all of you will be able to start telling us how your names are spelled for the credits, what platforms you want your game & DLC for, and where to send any and all physical items you may have ordered. It's important that you wait for the email that will be sent out later this week.

They're real... and they are coming soon!
They're real... and they are coming soon!

We will send an email with a special link to BackerKit surveys . It is important to respond to your survey as quickly as you can since we need this information for fulfilling your rewards.

You do not need to create a BackerKit account to fill out your survey, just click on the survey link once you get the email, fill it out, and you’re all good to go! You will be able to answer questions about your rewards preferences, provide shipping information, and pledge for more “add-ons” if you'd like.

You do not have access to this survey link yet, but it will be available this week via email!

If you decide later that you want to edit your survey response, you can go back to your survey and change it any time before we lock down the surveys for processing.

Watch your email boxes this week, we'll also announce when the BackerKit Surveys have been sent out via Twitter and Facebook.

New Counselor Concept Art

We have some new takes on a couple of great classic horror character tropes for two of our Counselor classes. Take a gander and head to the comments or the forums to get in on the discussions.

Update #16: Official Forums going up tonight!! Surveys and Slasher Backer still in-progress! Upcoming Twitch Streams!
almost 9 years ago – Mon, Nov 23, 2015 at 11:01:41 PM

Project Update

We're back again to fill you in on the latest happenings on the Friday the 13th: The Game project.

Again, thank you so much for helping us make this game a reality!

What's Next?

LAST WEEK: Our meetings last week at Illfonic went wonderfully, and we hope you got the opportunity to catch the Periscope we did. In that broadcast we did a brief tour of the office there in Denver and introduced you to a few of the Illfonic team members working on the game. We'll do more of these in the future and will also upload the videos to YouTube afterwards so they can live on past the 24 hour time limit that Periscope has.

The team met to discuss schedules, budgets, game design, asset production, motion capture and of course some amazing kills! Tom Savini is up to bat and is currently working on designing feature kills to be added to the game. The animation team and Kane Hodder are planning for an upcoming motion capture shoot, and we'll be sure to film some behind-the-scenes videos for all of the backers to enjoy! There will be a Periscope or two as well.

THIS WEEK: Kickstarter closed out all pledges and collected funds. Any Backers that weren't able to update their cards and get everything resubmitted have lost their rewards. Fret not though, for anyone this happened to you will have another chance to back in the Slasher Backer Campaign (coming soon). Kickstarter is still performing book keeping tasks and have yet to release the funds to the team for development, but that should happen by the end of the week.

THE NEXT 2 WEEKS: I don't want to abuse the Update system here on Kickstarter, and definitely don't want people to think we're spamming them, so I will limit how often I send these out. Make sure you are following us on Facebook as there will be announcements there as well.

The next update will contain information on the Survey Process and Slasher Backer Campaign, as I want to be able to alert everyone when the surveys are going to start being sent out.

I'm still working on surveys and setting up the Slasher Backer Campaign. The surveys will allow you to begin selecting what platforms you would like your game/s for, ask you for your address (which you will be able to update in case of moving), and you will get to inform us of how your name is to spelled in the credits. Every Reward Tier may require additional information to be filled out, and we will ensure that all surveys for every pledge tier goes out at the same time.

It's becoming clearer as to when these will be going out, but there are still a lot of factors involved. There were a huge amount of backers that we need to serve and of course we don't want to make any mistakes on anything as important as people's project rewards.

Again, I won't rush this task and want everything to go as smoothly as possible for everyone. We've all been hard at work at Gun Media and Illfonic and we will keep you informed over the next 2 weeks.

We thank you for your patience and understanding.

Forums Are Live!

Check your emails! You either already have emails from us, or you'll get them very soon, and they'll contain invites for the Official Friday the 13th: The Game forums.

We'll be posting updates more frequently in the forums so don't get left out!

Jump in, register and get involved!

Upcoming Twitch Stream

This Wednesday, November 25th, Randy will be streaming Mortal Kombat X on Xbox One and playing as Jason Voorhees. Tune in to watch.

Upcoming Streams...

  • Friday Dec. 4th at 8pm EST/5pm PST I'll be playing D2 on Dreamcast
  • Friday Dec. 11th at 8pm EST/5pm PST Nightmare on Elm Street on NES

Here is the link to the stream - http://www.twitch.tv/fridaythe13thgame

We're committed to keeping everyone up to date on development and we're going to have FUN doing it!

That said... Why not just follow us on Twitch now so you can get a notification whenever we go live? You really should... Likewise, follow us on Twitter @Friday13thGame and me at @Randygbk for bonus stream announcements/reminders.

Wrap-Up

Things are ramping up on production, and now the community will be in full swing too. Be on the look-out for more updates, screenshots, videos in the coming weeks and months.

Thank you for your continued support!

Update #15: We're Funded! Stretch Goals Unlocking! Counselor Concepts! New Reward Tier and MORE!!
about 9 years ago – Mon, Nov 16, 2015 at 10:07:43 AM

Project Update

Wow! WE'RE FUNDED! Jason has been unleashed!!

The last few days certainly have been incredible! We hit our goal, smashed a mirror, and now we just CRUSHED HEADS at 750k! We're moving fast now and knocking down stretch goals! We're now over 11,100 strong and less than 25k away from Ripping Hearts Out!

Keep it up! Share, Tweet, Yell and Scream! We're in the final hours of the project, every new backer counts!

Counselor Concept

We're giving everyone a sneak peak at a new counselor class concept. The Girl Next Door!

So so 80's!
So so 80's!

New Reward Tier (Name A Cabin)

The Team has agreed, and we are adding a fun new reward tier that will let you put your moniker on the cabins used in the game! We're going to have cabins and small buildings sprinkled all over the map, and in Summer Camp tradition they will all need names! Just think, you could be playing the game and players everywhere will be saying your name as they work together to take down Jason. Think along the lines of, we have to head over to search the "Volkman Bunks", I saw Jason entering "Hobbs House", or run and hide in "Keltner Cabin".

How will people know the name you ask? They'll be on signage on each cabin and marked on the map for reference. We're even going to let you submit a picture of yourself or a family pic to use in your named cabin. (Pictures must be appropriately themed for inclusion and the name of the cabin must not contain any inappropriate language)

The new Tier will be added tonight at 6:45pm EST/3:45pm PST. Be ready as there won't be many!

Stretch Goal Update

We're well on our way to feeding the machete! We've already blown past two killer stretch goals and we can do more. It's speeding up, people are seeing what is being done and hopping on board. All of you out there that backed, thank you so much! Keep sharing the project, tweeting and re-tweeting, and talking about what what is going on.

We're moving on to Rip Your Heart Out!!
We're moving on to Rip Your Heart Out!!

Physical & Digital Add-On Reminder

We're proud to announce that we'll be producing Physical Soundtrack CD's and Artbooks for the game! We're also going to allow for add-ons for the digital soundtrack as well as extra downloadble keys.

Now, this is the part that needs everyone's attention and care. These add-ons can become a little confusing since they need to be accounted for manually by you! All Add-ons are available for anyone pledging at the $15 Tier or above.

Add-On Instructions: To add any add-on or multiple add-ons to your pledge, follow these steps:

1) Press the 'Manage Your Pledge' Button: You'll find this button above. If you haven't pledged yet the button will read "Back This Project".

2) Keep your chosen pledge selected and then increase your pledge in the "Pledge Amount" Box by totaling up your chosen Tier + the additional amount of each of your add-ons + any shipping and handling that needs to be included for every add-on you want.

3) After the Kickstarter Campaign ends, a few days later a survey will be sent to you and you'll be able to choose the add-ons you wanted and how you'd like the add-on money assigned.

*** VERY IMPORTANT!!! PLEASE READ THIS PART ***

If you have already created a second (or third) account on Kickstarter and selected different Reward Tiers on them, please keep those instead of doing add-ons. If you want to select more add-ons though, use your original account and follow the above steps.

Update 11: 639k! 2 New Reward Tiers! Upcoming Twitch Streams!
about 9 years ago – Fri, Nov 13, 2015 at 11:45:28 AM

Project Update

Back again with a new update! We have some new stuff coming your way, and I'll take a moment to do another reminder section for Project Add-Ons. But first...

We're over 91% funded and we're about to cross the 639k threshhold! The campaign is moving right along on it's way to the 700k goal with $61,182 to go. Let's all push to hit 10k backers this weekend! Get the word out and share the Kickstarter with everyone you know. Set up a Friday the 13th movie viewing party and invite your friends over this weekend and then show them the announcement trailer.

Thank you all for all of the phenomenal support so far, just 7 more days to go! Keep it up!

2 New Reward Tiers

Due to popular demand we're creating a killer new reward tier that will be a horror fan's dream!

DESIGN-A-KILL!  Collaborate with the Dev team and Tom Savini to refine your Kill idea to make it a reality! Pitch your kill ideas and work with us to get it done! Now 5 lucky people will have the chance to make their "Dream Kill" happen in the first Friday the 13th video game in well over 20 years!

The 2nd new tier is actually a combo Reward Tier that will be limited and brings back the last chance to become one of JASON'S VICTIMS! That's right, we've been getting request after request to find a way to bring back some more Tombstone slots. We've expanded the Cemetery a bit and removed some placeholder "fluff" headstones to fit 5 new Tombstones in for you fans. These will be bundled with the Achievement/Trophy Design package and will be offered at a special pledge price.

These new Reward Tiers will be posted tonight at 10:15pm EST/7:15pm PST. Don't miss out!

Twitch Stream - Tomorrow - Clock Tower PS1

Come by and watch me stream a classic horror title on a retro console!

We did a poll on twitter and you made yourself heard. By an overwhelming majority the choice for me to stream Clock Tower for the Playstation 1 was made. We had 118 votes and Clock Tower won out over Illbleed 63% to 37%

Clock Tower WINS!
Clock Tower WINS!

What does that mean? Well... It means I'm going back to my storage unit tomorrow morning to unearth and an playstation system and my copy of the game to make this happen.

As usual we'll be going back to the 90's for this one and I'll be answering questions about Friday the 13th: The Game while I get chopped up by our good friend Scissor-man.

Tomorrow we'll throw the Retro Stream up live at 6pm EST/3pm PST and run with it! Tune in!

Bonus Twitch Live Stream TONIGHT - The Nullpoint

We'll start the *Bonus* stream of The Nullpoint tonight at 9pm EST/6pm PST. Just a heads up, the link for the stream will be - http://www.twitch.tv/fridaythe13thgame
